Legislative Update
The Missouri Senate perfected a few bills this week, including:
SB 1 – Senator Crawford (Buffalo, Dist. 28) modifies provisions relating to county officials.
SB 7 – Senator Bernskoetter (Jefferson City, Dist. 6) related to emergency medical services.
SB 50 – Senator Black (Chillicothe, Dist. 12) modifies provisions related to jails.
SB 59 – Senator Carter (Joplin, Dist. 32) authorizes an income tax deduction for certain survivor benefits.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has been vetting bills in committee. Here’s a few that passed out of committee this week.
Representative Shields (St. Joseph, Dist. 11) HB 269 authorizes the "Child Care Contribution Tax Credit Act", the "Employer-Provided Child Care Assistance Tax Credit Act", and the "Child Care Providers Tax Credit". This legislation is geared to help with the workforce shortage by addressing the lack of and/or affordable child care in the state. It passed the Economic Development Committee unanimously.
HB 68, sponsored by Representative Overcast (Ava, Dist. 155) would modify the statute of limitations for personal injury claims from five years to two years passed out of the Commerce Committee 5-4.
Representative Mayhew’s (Crocker, Dist. 124) HB 419 passed unanimously out of the Standing Committee on Veterans and Armed Forces. The bill clarifies that military personnel, their spouses and their unemancipated children are eligible for in-state tuition for undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Also eligible are individuals serving the Missouri National Guard and those serving in reserve of the Armed Forces of the U.S.
We anticipate a few bills getting floor time in the House next week.
