Governor Mike Parson will deliver his final State of the State Address next Wednesday, January 24 at 3:00 p.m. It will be live streamed on mo.gov/live, Governor Parson’s Facebook page and the State of Missouri’s Facebook page.
As noted in last week’s newsletter, childcare is a priority of Governor Parson as it directly impacts the state’s workforce, thus the economy and economic development. Representative Shield’s (Dist. 11, St. Joseph) HB 1488 passed unanimously out of the House Workforce and Infrastructure Development Committee this week. The Senate companion bill, SB 742, received a public hearing in the Senate Governmental Accountability Committee this morning. Senator Arthur (Dist. 17, Kansas City) sponsors it.
Another childcare related bill heard in Governmental Accountability today was SB 881, sponsored by Senator Razer (Dist. 7, Kansas City). This bill would create a childcare cost-sharing pilot program to be administered by the Office of Childhood, in collaboration with the Department of Economic Development. The program would include a cost-sharing arrangement between participating employers, employees and the state. The intent is for this program to help meet the needs of those who do not already receive childcare grants. Employees must have an income between 201% and 325% of the poverty level. There were no testimonies in opposition.
